Although the concept of an afterlife continues to be debated, for cryonics enthusiasts such a thing may be well within reach.
Today, over 200 patients around the globe lie frozen in cryopreservation facilities, hoping to be reanimated once medicine advances sufficiently. Some have chosen to store their whole bodies, while others, deeming the preservation of their brains to be enough to retain their memories and identities, have opted to store just their heads.
Cryonics experts are simply working off assumptions at this point, as the success of the procedure has not yet been proven. Yet, if cryonics proves to be a viable way to “treat” death, it could have a huge effect on the way we view life, and on the future of our species.
